Time Over Toys

by Andrew

According to BBC, children in the UK aren’t so happy. How did this happen? According to Unicef, parents are spending too little time with their children, yet spend too much on buying materials and toys for them.
There are parents who want to make their children happy, but do not know how. Instead of spending time with their children, they buy them gadgets and clothes as they believe that toys make them happier. That doesn’t seem to be the case however.
When children want their parents’ attention, parents give them materials instead. Because of work, parents do not have time to offer nor have knowledge of what’s best for their children. To have a living, parents need to earn it.
However, in Sweden, the social policies and their culture strengthen family time. In Spain, one parent works for long hours and the other stays home to look after their children. Children are doing much better in these two countries due to the policies that encourage family time.
Often, parents do not have the energy to give attention to their children because of their exhausting work hours. Poorer families find it harder to spend time with their children because poorer parents work for longer hours to be able to offer their children with their needs.
It is about time that parents should spend more time with their children not only to make them happier, but to guide them to the right path of the future.
